Tips to Sell Your Home

Before you ask the agent over, go over this list. Check your home out ‘as-if’ you were the buyer. Be critical in what you see. Take notes. Because if you are critical, the buyer will be too! The first impression will always leave a lasting impression. So let’s make the most of it!

First Impression

Curb Appeal
The well-manicured lawn, neatly trimmed shrubs and a clutter free porch welcome prospects. Stand at your front door. Look down to see if the door mat is well worn. Then look up to see if there are cob webs or dust or dirt on the walls or door. Look at the front door. A freshly painted front door – or a fresh oiled or dusted door. If it is in the fall, are all of the leaves raked? If is winter, shovel the sidewalks & walkways. The more appealing the home the better!

Does the living room invite you in to sit for a while?
Enter the home. Look around. Is the home clean? How is the living room, the bathroom the kitchen? Is the woodwork scuffed or are there scuffs marks on the walls? Are the floors looking new? Consider touching up the paint, having the carpets cleaned and scrubbing the floor. This will payback when you will sell your home.

Do your bathrooms sparkle?
In the bathrooms, do the faucets drip? Are the sinks discolored? Are there light bulbs burnt out? Does the bathroom have a funny odor? Is the caulking in the tubs unsightly? A little elbow grease can make the bathroom sparkle! Then for the best show put out your best towels, mat and shower curtain. Cleaning and having light & bright bathroom feeling will welcome any buyer.

Safety
Have the kids left their roller blades on the stairs? Are there extension cords in the bathroom by a sink or tub? Are there slippery throw rugs in the hallway or entrance? Any low hanging overhead lights?

Closets
Have you looked in your closet lately? Clothes on the floor & shoes in a pile? Buyers are always looking for space. Be sure that the closets are organized. Box up your unwanted items and donate them to charity.

Bedrooms
Buyers love to see a dreamy room, to see a cozy comforter on the bed. Fresh curtains on the windows. Maybe they just need to be dry cleaned. And then for a spacious look, remove any excess furniture.

Let the sun shin in!
Have the curtains and drapes opened. Be sure to check the windows. After a long winter the windows & screens probably need to be washed.
